Haters Silenced! Kid Poker Dominates as PokerListings.com's Live Series Coverage Hits Week 3

But a four-year bracelet drought at the World Series had some questioning whether the one they call "Kid Poker," Daniel Negreanu, had the drive - or the game - to ever win one again.

"Every year you hear the people talk about how you're washed up and you're too busy with your outside interests and your pokerVTs, your PokerStars things and all the traveling.

"But what people don't realize is poker is still my No. 1 thing. And golf (laughs). But actually, for the World Series, I try as hard as anyone to win a bracelet and when I'm playing my game I'm in contention for Player of the Year."

Part of the reason more pros, himself included, are monopolizing most of the final tables at this year's Series, Negreanu adds: better tournament structures.

"Right now it's such a great year for the pros and the WSOP. The key reason is that last year they did some things with the structures that made it a lot faster and more luck oriented. Now you look at these final tables and it gives a pro an opportunity to really maneuver and not just play a crapshoot type of thing.

"That's why you are going to see ... the real pros are the ones who know how to finish the job and this year has been a testament to that."

Somewhat overshadowed on Day 14 thanks to Negreanu's win, but definitely not to be overlooked, was another crowd-pleasing bracelet winner - Vanessa Selbst.

Selbst, a Yale University Law student who likewise dominated the field in Event 19, $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha, to win her first bracelet and $227,965, became the first female open-field bracelet winner since Katja Thater last year.
